In September 2018, due to increasing interest from photographers in the analogue approach, Kodak brought back its 35mm Ektachrome E100 Color Reversal film, having ceased its production it six years prior.

When Hell Freezes Over, Vienna 2019

Having recently started experimenting with analogue photography myself, with a second-hand Olympus OM-2n, I bought a roll at some expense (nearly €20) to try it out. Shown here are the shots I was most pleased with, all taken around Vienna, where I live.

Like A Red Book, Vienna 2018

Knowing the developing and scanning of this would cost about the same again, I took a different approach to my usual 'shoot everything and edit later' digital photography approach, and limited myself to just a handful of shots each day.

Funball, Vienna 2019

Sometimes it's good to mix up your usual working methods with different constraints, and so this particular one meant having to think much more before taking each shot. I made the roll last around a month, from December 2018 - January 2019.

Break Into A Stride, Vienna 2018

After developing and scanning, some of the images had a slight green tinge to them, so I made basic edits in Lightroom to get the colours closer to what I was happy with.

Bare Faced Cheek, Vienna 2018

Despite the non-RAW nature of the files, they could still be pushed reasonably far to get what I wanted out of the photos.

Checkmate, Vienna 2018

I really enjoyed the results of many of the shots, and find increasingly that the characteristic colour and grain of different types of film can be incredibly satisfying in a way that digital photography can’t replicate. This particular film seems to work well for shots containing many different colours in one frame, in particular the reds. Next time I've got €20 burning a hole in my pocket, I may well treat myself again!
